Education Environmental Education    In the Biological Corridor, Path of the Tapir we are working on an environmental education program with PNUD. The program consists of interactive workshops for the children of schools in the corridor. The workshops themes range from problems of trash, How to be a friend of the community, where the springs start, why we should plant trees, the importance of biological corridors, organic gardens, and the importance of water and problems associated with it. The mission is to visit between 30 and 40 different education centers at least once.    After the workshop a video is presented about the biodiversity and the Central American coasts. This is produced by the Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad (InBio). The use of both the workshops and video y se complementa relacionando ambas (charla y video) con la realidad local de acuerdo con la comunidad donde estemos.    Along with these activities we are establishing 20 school projects where the students can put to practice what they learned in the workshops. During the first semester of 2007 11 of these projects have been started and the initiation of the other projects is pending. The majority of the projects are organic gardens that are going to enrich the food consumption of the children; these projects are taking place at Escuela Barú, Tierras Morenas, Tres Piedras and Aguas Buenas. Other schools have decided to plant fruit trees such as Escuela La Reina and San Juan de Dios. The school in Portalón has decided to plant trees and start a recycling program.    We must continue to work with the children. They are the future administrators and workers of the Biological Corridor, Path of the Tapir. Our objectives of conservation and protection of the environment to continue for the future depend solely on the children.
